Something happened last week that hasn't in a long time. It rained. But this was no brief summer shower. The clouds were dark as charcoal on the horizon as the wind began to blow. The kayakers were all wondering if this was the answer to their prayers, and it was! The water came down in raging sheets as the whole town cheered to the water gods. It rained cats and dogs, hammers and nails, muskrats and otters, and any other way it could. This storm did not lack stamina, it was a multi-day affair. The creeks started raging and the kayakers came out of the woodwork. The creeks fed the Yough and it started rising. The river went from a little over a foot to almost 10 feet in only a couple days. We almost had to cancel some trips because the river level was getting too high. The water looked like chocolate milk and made for an extra-exciting ride for the lucky rafters. We had a blast!
